Monkey Stories: Holly and the bucket

"Holly and the bucket"

by Janet F.

A trip down memory lane reminds me of several of the practical, but not necessarily most common uses for a mop bucket. When Holly the baboon was just a wee little toddler, she use to like to put a mop bucket over her head & wonder around on her two bowlegged little legs & bump into things blindly. This usually resulted with her eventually falling down. Then I would have a giggling little bucket with limbs protruding out from as they played with their little toes. Of course, Holly still enjoys playing with a mop bucket. She tied one end of her blanket to her bucket, & looped the other end of the blanket thru the top of her cage. Then she sat in her bucket & reeled herself up to the top of her cage, while mom watched her creativity. Holly likes to turn her bucket over & sit on the bottom of it like a stool. Mom & Holly also play, throw the ball into the bucket, & sometimes Holly gets so excited with this that she jumps in the bucket right along with her ball. Holly hides her other toys in her bucket. When Holly gets frustrated with mommy, when mommy says the "no" word, then Holly throws her bucket. Her bucket can also be used as a musical instrument. She can bang it against the sides of her cage. Then to get the more orchestra affect, she can also run her cake pan back & forth along the bars of her cage, or she blows into the bottom of her plastic baseball bat, which gives the music the much needed whistling sound to the ensemble.
