Meet Gakere™. His name, pronounced
gah-KEH-reh, means "small muscles" in Africa. Little Gakere knows he is not the largest or strongest animal in the jungle. That is why whenever he has a big job to do, he asks the other animals to help. It is through teamwork that Gakere can accomplish anything. As they say in Zaire, "A single bracelet does not jingle."
Gakere is a red-tailed guenon. The guenon is a small slender monkey with long, thin limbs and tail. Guenons also have long hair around their face, like a lion’s mane. The red-tailed guenon, also known as Schmidt’s guenon, is best known for its red tail.
Red-tailed guenons live in Zaire, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, and the Central African Republic.
