Wild Republic : Colobus monkey

Meet Kianga™.Her name, pronounced Kee-AHN-gah, means “sunshine” in African. She was named this because every day, at dusk, she loves to watch the sunset. Even when her boyfriend cannot be with her.

On rainy days when the sun will not come out, Kianga sometimes gets sad. But then she remembers a famous saying from Cameroon: “Rain never falls on your roof alone.” This makes her feel better.

Kianga is a colobus monkey. Colobus monkeys are African long-tailed, tree-living primates.

Colobus monkeys climb high into trees and face the sun at dawn and dusk. There is no explanation for this. Maybe they think sunsets are pretty, like we do. The babies are born white, and turn black over time. Black with white whiskers, beards, and mantles; the adult fur is quite thick and beautiful.

Colobus monkeys live in the tropical and mountain forests of Central Africa, and maybe soon your backyard.
