Feeding
Instructions
Growing
animals can be fed free choice. Mature primates will consume approximately 1 lb.
of diet per 35 lbs. of body weight (3%) per day. The correct quantity fed is one
that maintains an appropriate body composition as assessed by the primate
professional.
It is not necessary to provide a supplemental source of vitamin C with this
diet, if the diet is fed within one year of the date of manufacture. It is also
not necessary to supplement this diet with fruits or vegetables that may upset
the balance of the diet. Great care should be taken to limit the amount of fresh
produce fed, as many of these food items are very palatable but have limited
nutritional value to the primate. Primate professionals may want to use fruits
and vegetables in limited quantities as a behavioral enrichment experience.
Most primates will readily accept ZuPreem Primate Diet Dry. If the animal is
reluctant to accept the diet, the biscuits can be soaked in fruit juice to
increase palatability or to improve mouth feel. Remove any unconsumed moistened
food within four hours of moistening.
ZuPreem Primate Diet Ground is made by grinding Primate Diet Dry biscuits into a
fine meal. This diet can be used to provide nutrition to sick, disabled, or
geriatric primates. Mix the meal with warm water or another liquid, and feed
using a syringe or other feeding device. Primate Diet Ground can be sprinkled
over other foodstuffs during conversion to dry whole biscuits.
Note – As an indicator of health, always monitor for changes in weight
and body condition. Provide adequate amounts of food to maintain body condition,
preventing excessive thinness or obesity.
ZuPreem
Primate Canned
ZuPreem
Primate Diet Canned is formulated to be a nutritionally complete diet when a
source of Vitamin C is provided. Designed to be fed as the primary diet for Old
and New World monkeys, great apes and other primates.
Feeding
Instructions
ZuPreem
Primate Diet Canned is formulated to be fed as the sole diet for Old and New
World monkeys, great apes and other primates. A supplemental diet source of
Vitamin C such as one section of an orange per week per animal must be fed in
addition to the diet. Any other supplement(s) may dilute the nutrient content
and could upset the balance of this diet. Because of the complementary nutrient
profiles, the canned diet can be mixed with ZuPreem Primate Diet Dry if a diet
with a different texture or moisture content is desired, or for variety. Replace
with fresh canned diet if food becomes dried out. Cover and refrigerate unused
food in can for up to five days. If refrigerated, return the diet to room
temperature prior to feeding.
Feed ZuPreem Primate Diet Canned free choice to non-obese prone animals.
Otherwise, feed measured-meal quantities. Food consumption may vary between
species and individuals of the same species. The correct quantity fed is one
that maintains an appropriate body composition as assessed by the primate
professional.
Marmosets and tamarins should be fed ZuPreem Marmoset Diet Canned.
Note – As an indicator of health, always monitor for changes in weight
and body condition. Provide adequate amounts of food to maintain body condition,
preventing excessive thinness or obesity.
Always provide clean, fresh water.
ZuPreem
Marmoset Canned
ZuPreem
Marmoset Diet Canned is formulated to be a nutritionally complete diet when a
source of Vitamin C is provided. Designed to be fed as the primary diet for
marmosets and tamarins, this remarkable diet was developed many years ago when
it was discovered that some New World primates could not convert Vitamin D2
(widely used in animal nutrition) to D3.
After intensive research, nutritional experts at ZuPreem produced a diet with a
perfect blend of ingredients that included adequate levels of Vitamin D3,
other important nutrients, and an appealing aroma and palatability. Ever since,
this diet has been an integral part of marmoset and tamarin husbandry.
Feeding Instructions
ZuPreem
Marmoset Diet Canned is formulated to be fed as the primary diet for marmosets
and tamarins. A supplemental source of Vitamin C, such as one section of an
orange per animal per week, must be fed in addition to the diet. Any other
supplement(s) may dilute the nutrient content and could upset the balance of the
diet. This
diet should not be fed to other primates because of its higher Vitamin D3
content.
Feed
ZuPreem Marmoset Diet Canned free choice. Most marmosets will eat 1oz. to 2 oz.
of food daily, and this is the suggested daily quantity if the animal is fed by
the measured-meal feeding method. Food consumption may vary between animals.
Feeding the proper quantity helps the individual animal achieve optimum body
mass without thinness or obesity.
Some
marmosets develop fixed eating habits and preferences. When introducing a new
diet, gradually increase the quantity of the new diet while reducing the
quantity of the previous diet. This transition period will vary from one to 10
days depending on the individual animal. Replace with fresh canned diet if food
becomes dried out. Cover and refrigerate unused canned food for up to five days.
If refrigerated, return the diet to room temperature prior to feeding.
Marmosets
and tamarins are often fed supplemental fresh produce in addition to ZuPreem
Marmoset Diet Canned. The amount of fresh produce should be limited, because
most fresh produce provides limited nutrient value to the animal. Studies
have shown that when marmosets and tamarins are housed in family groups, the
dominant animals tend to consume increased amounts of fresh produce at the
expense of eating the more nutritious complete diet. This practice can lead to
nutritional deficiencies in these animals. Whether housed in family groups or
individually, the amount of fresh produce offered should be limited to ensure
the animal consumes the proper complete nutrition from ZuPreem Marmoset Diet
Canned.
Note
– As an indicator of health, always monitor for changes in weight and body
condition. Provide adequate amounts of food to maintain body condition,
preventing excessive thinness or obesity.
Always provide clean, fresh water.
