When cash money is required, use a money order to make sure you have proof of sale. Always pick up your monkey at the location of the owner. A health certificate from a vet should be delivered to make sure you are buying a healthy primate. Success!

Guidelines while purchasing a monkey
- Before you even consider buying a monkey, please educate yourself. If possible, visit or talk to current primate owners to learn more about their care.
- By law the seller must have an USDA license. Make sure to ask for their credentials for your protection!
- While not a must, it is recommended that you purchase your baby monkey directly from the breeder so you can get as much information as possible about it's history. This can come in extremely handy when your monkey gets sick.
- Make sure to ask the seller a lot of questions regarding their care. A good seller will take the time to answer all your questions and should be truthful about it. They should discourage people with young kids to purchase monkeys as pets since they can get aggressive when they get older.
- A responsible breeder or broker will ask you questions as well. If they don't, you might want to considering shopping elsewhere.
- Make sure you have proof of purchase when you buy your monkey. There are a lot of online scams so please be careful.
- We really recommend that you pick up your monkey instead of getting it shipped somehow. This isn't just a safety precaution but the transport can be very stressful on them. This will also allow you to see their facitility and they can show you how to take care of your new baby monkey. You want what is best for them, right?
- The seller should provide you with a health certificate. We also recommend that you take your baby monkey to your monkey vet immediately for a full checkup. Make sure to find a vet in your area that treats primates before purchasing your baby monkey.
Can you legally keep a monkey as a pet?
While it might be legal to purchase a monkey as a pet from any breeder or broker, that doesn't mean you're allowed to keep them at your home. Before looking for capuchins for sale or marmosets for sale, you'll need to make sure that those species are actually permitted in your area. Some cities have special ordinances that make it illegal for you to keep old world primates while new world primates are permitted, while other counties might actually have a ban even though your state might allow them. Before buying a monkey, make sure that you check your state, county, and city laws. While the state might permit you to keep a monkey, most cities do not allow you to keep monkeys within city limits. Your city clerk should be able to tell you if you can keep a monkey.
Again, make sure to first check your state laws and once you're sure you can legally keep monkeys as pets in your state, check your county and city laws. Loosing your monkey because of legalities can be very traumatic for primate owners and their monkeys since they get really bonded to their social companions.
